  • System Type: Grid-connected
  • Average Yearly Wind Speed: 12.3 mph
  • Primary Wind: from the Southwest
  • Monitoring System: Fat Spaniel Monitoring
  • Estimated Output: 24,400 kilowatt-hours (k Wh) per year
System Start Date: 03/06/09

The wind turbine is a 10kW ARE442, on a 140 ft. guyed lattice tower (has guy wires). The turbine has a permanent magnet alternator (no gearbox), which means there are fewer moving parts, fewer moving parts means lower maintenance and better durability. The system is grid-connected and has a Fat Spaniel Monitoring System attached. Production and other information can be viewed at www.fatspaniel.com/fat-spaniel-in-action/live-sites/.

The project was partially funded by a PA Energy Harvest Grant, and the electricity produced by the wind turbine will help off-set the electric usage at the Municipal Building. This is a good example of how a wind turbine not only benefits the owner, but also has a positive impact on the community.

On average, the wind turbine produces about 2033k Wh's per month, with highest production occurring during late fall, winter, and early spring.
