Paradise Hill Wind Project
These photos show a 10kW Bergey Excel-S wind turbine with black blades on a 140 ft. guyed lattice tower, and the associated electronic equipment. The system provides power to a residence and large utility building with a kitchen and walk-in refrigerator. It was the first 140 foot tower engineered for a Bergey 10kW tubine and the first to be installed. The 140 ft. tower can now be ordered as a standard item through Bergey.
Why is the Tower So Tall?
The rule of thumb is that the higher you go, the better your turbine will produce. Turbines that are placed on taller towers experience less turbulence. Turbulence can reduce production and can cause early maintenance issues for a wind turbine, so going "up" is almost always beneficial.
Why are the Blades Black?
Bergey blades come in two colors, black and white, and it is up to the customer to choose. Some customers prefer white for aesthetics, but in this case, the black blades were chosen for their increased ability to resist ice build-up during the winter months.
